I am not talking about those generations. I am talking about gen one, and how everyone shits on the other generations for ‘running out of ideas’. The legendary birds were ‘fire’, ‘thunder’, and ‘freezer’ in Japanese. Bulbasaur’s Japanese name translates to ‘mysterious bulb’, they don’t even bother trying to figure out what it is. They didn’t even bother with Seel, in English or Japanese.

Gen one is not some sacred cow and paragon of Perfect Unblemished Pokemon, and at least Unova had pokemon that matched the environment (big cities, lots of trash and industrial stuff, so you get garbage pokemon and steel types and ‘ugly’ mons that you’d get in an urban environment where there’s not a ton of nature to thrive in) instead of just the developers saying ‘fuck, I dunno, just put in some sorta big flaming duck in the haunted mansion’.
